According to Prince, the Reynell's were ever men of great, credit, fidelity and service to their kings, country, and state, as well in peace matters as wars. Many were knights. Richard flourished during the reigns of King Henry II and Richard I. When King Richard went to the Holy Land, Richard had custody of the castles of Exeter and Launceston in 1191. Richard defended the castles against King John I. When King Richard I died, King John then deprived him of his estates at Pyttney. Richard was Sheriff of Devonshire from 1191 to 1194. |
